Why “Fawlty”?

Why “Fawlty”? Firstly, it’s a respectful, oblique reference to Fawlty Towers; the sensational comedic series created by John Cleese and his wife Connie Booth where hospitality and hostility are competing partners. It also rhymes with “Faulty”’ which conveys dysfunctionality. Towers and Powers also rhyme. We live in a world where those invested with the responsibility of our care, consistently betray us, by one mechanism or another. Be it corruption, malevolence, or incompetence, the end result is pretty much the same. Distress is everywhere.

Matt Jelicich - Portfolio

Creator, prime lyricist, concept inspiration, and financial backer. Currently 81. Not a musician. Have had many careers but music wasn't one of them. Corporate business, Advertising, Managing a Circus, Market research, Nightclub owner and manager, Hotel manager, Restaurateur, and, for my last 25 years, my own Interstate Transport business modeled around innovative solutions for major Resource Enterprises e.g. BHP Petroleum.

Since about age thirteen, I've written down my dreams and speculated about the Universe. And, in parallel with my academic achievements, studied mythology, diverse world religions, and all kinds of belief structures both cult, esoteric, and conventional. This helped form my view of the multi-dimensional worlds we all, in one way or another, inhabit. Whether we are conscious of this or not.

Concomitant with that was an unusually high level of, largely, inspirational writing. No! Not inspirational in the sense of "oh, I hear the voices of the angels". No way. None of that nonsense. I'd be mowing the lawns – now there's a very suburban activity – something would come into my head and, I'd have to stop and write it down, no matter what nonsense it may have been. I have literally thousands of A4 pages with fragments of all kinds. Mostly poems needing TLC to finish them and others professing to be songs.
